Mexican man has heightened awareness by believing in Mayan calendar predictions

My name is Juan Angel Patlán Castillo. I am from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.

I want to share my story about some experiences I had in the year 2012. I believed that something was going to happen in the year 2012 because of what was said in the media about the Mayan prophecies of 2012. I spent several years waiting to see what would happen, because they said there would be something like a transformation of the world or an elevation of people's consciousness, including me. So, as the date of December 21, 2012 approached, I was hoping something would happen.

At the beginning of the year 2012, I spent more time at home. I wasn't studying as I had just recently finished my degree at a university and I wasn't working because I hadn't obtained a job yet.

One day, I was in a room and I started to meditate sitting with my eyes closed. Suddenly, I saw a flash that made me open my eyes.

I remember that sometimes I would observe more brightly. Other days I would suddenly find myself in ecstasy. (Ecstasy is a heightened state of consciousness in which one experiences constant joy.) At other times, I suddenly found myself in a state of observer or witness, my mind remained still and silent, there was no identification with the body and I saw myself as one with everything I observed. I was more aware of being one with everything that existed. Those experiences were extremely amazing and sublime. These types of experiences also involve a heightened state of consciousness—even more sublime than ecstasy—and they happened to me roughly seven times. They didn't all occur on the same day, but rather on different days: while I was at home, while walking near a park, and while in a supermarket.

On another occasion, my dad and I had gone to a supermarket to shop. When I was between two shelves in the supermarket, suddenly, the mind remained still and silent and there was no identification with the body. I observed that all the things or items for sale that were on those shelves were connected and everything emitted light from its essence. Everything looked more radiant. And then, I think I looked down the aisle between the two shelves of the supermarket at something like the Infinite and Eternity which is probably God. It is as if I were witnessing the miracle of existence with greater clarity. I believe that was the most sublime experience I have ever had. I think it must have lasted approximately a minute.

I don't know if the Mayan prophecies are true or not, but by believing in them, I went through those mystical experiences, probably because I was trying to find the Truth. I think I had mystical experiences through autosuggestion.

After December 21, 2012, the mystical experiences no longer occurred, or they occurred less until they were no longer witnessed. But those mystical experiences helped me have more certainty to move forward on the path of seeking the Truth.

I believe that at the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013, I bought the book "The Eye of the I" by author David R. Hawkins at a bookstore and began to learn about his teachings by reading that book. I think that is the book that best describes the mystical experiences that Dr. Hawkins had, and I didn't know that when I bought it.
